VENASEAL

VenaSeal is another form of treatment for larger varicose veins in your legs. It is a safe, quick, and effective method to get rid of the superficial veins with reflux, or blood pooling in your veins. When reflux occurs, it can cause symptoms such as aching, heaviness, and fatigue in your legs.

An ultrasound of your legs can be used to diagnose the reflux and evaluate which procedure is best for you. VenaSeal is a great treatment option that is very well tolerated with a quick recovery to make your legs look and feel their best.

FAQ

What is VenaSeal?

VenaSeal is a medically formulated adhesive which closes varicose veins that cause you pain, heaviness, and fatigue. It is a quick outpatient procedure done in the office. A small area where the catheter is inserted is numbed, but only a minimal amount is needed for this procedure. Once the area is numb, the catheter is inserted into your vein using ultrasound guidance and the VenaSeal is administered. Some people experience a pulling or tugging sensation in the leg, but this is normal and the procedure is generally very well tolerated.

What is the recovery like after VenaSeal?

After the procedure, your provider will apply your medical compression stocking or wrap your leg in an ACE bandage to be worn continuously for twenty four hours. Starting the next day, you'll wear moderate compression stockings during the day for a week. Light exercise, like walking, is encouraged. Avoid heavy exercise or strenuous activity for one week following the procedure. Some patients experience swelling after the procedure and others may continue to experience the tugging sensation for a few days, but this is normal. Please call or text the office if you have any questions or concerns.

Will insurance cover VenaSeal?

Most insurance companies will cover VenaSeal after an ultrasound is used to diagnose saphenous reflux in your leg. We will work with you and your insurance company to understand coverage, figure out deductibles, and send prior authorizations.
